Slime Time
Slime Time is my attempt in making a game in week for "The Very Serious Juniper Dev Game Jam." I'm sure like everyone else who has participated in this Jam, I had a ton of ideas and tweaks that I cut for the sake of time. The beginning of this Jam was extremely challenging for me to hone in on a simple idea and execute it well. My idea is basically slime whack-a-mole with a surprise spin mechanic (since the theme for this Jam is "Spin to Win"). This was an interesting challenge that revealed to me what I think I do well concerning game development and where I'm most certainly weak. I have no idea how this will be received, but overall I had a fun time with this Game Jam especially when the game started to come together. Can't wait to see how everyone else's game turned out.
Controls
Use the arrow keys to move up, down, left, and right.
x = Slam hammer to squish slimes.
z = Special spin move that is unlocked when you squish three slimes.
Rules
You have fifteen seconds to squish as many slimes as you can!
Behind The Scenes
There is so much that I wanted to do for this game. I don't like the idea of using a timer. I originally wanted the island to gradually get covered in slime and when everything was covered that's when the game would end. Along with that, I also wanted to add a mechanic that when you slam you hammer on a tile that is covered in slime, you would temporarily clear that tile of slime. That way you had to decide if you want to try and squish more slimes or buy yourself some time before the island gets covered. If I'm being honest, the timer is a cop-out to getting the game to end, so that way it doesn't become boring. Either way, this was a fun challenge and I'm excited to progress in my journey of learning more about game development.
Credits
A big thank you to my Son, who enjoys play testing my crazy ideas. Also, a big thanks to one of my co-workers who has a great artistic eye and gave me some good advice. I'm sure he was entertained at my attempts at pixel art.
